Wick House Mincemeat

  • 3 lemons
  • 8 medium apples
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 ½ c. currants
  • 2 ½ c. raisins
  • 2 c. suet (beef fat – buy in store)
  • ½ c. candied peel
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. powdered cloves
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. brandy

Grate lemon rind, squeeze juice, grate apples. Mix all ingredients together. Store, refrigerated, for 2 weeks. Now, you have to make pie tarts. First, make a basic pie crust. Cut out circles (smaller circles for the tops.) Put mincemeat into pie tarts and bake for 10 mins at 425° and then for 20 mins at 350°.
