Bronia Sonnenschein was a friend of mine and a Holocaust survivor. At the end of the war, when she was liberated, she bought herself a red dress to celebrate. She was a gallant lady and an inspiration to many.

For something so simple, this is a surprisingly delicious recipe!
What does “Nuss Pusserln” mean?
It means “little nut kisses” in Viennese dialect. Bronia was my cherished mother.
I’d love to know who submitted her recipe and very kind comments – thank you!
Okay, now I know for sure from checking the History, though I had an inkling. Claudia Cornwall, author of the award-winning book Letter from Vienna, wrote two articles about my mother, in one of which she mentioned these cookies. Thanks again, Claudia!
The walnuts should be finely chopped. Also, my Mom added a little vanilla extract to the mix. Enjoy!
